Manchester United confirm that Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the season

Casemiro is set to depart Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the season, with the club confirming his departure months in advance after deciding not to extend his stay.

The announcement, made five months before his deal runs out, reflects a deliberate choice by United to draw a clear line under the Brazilian’s time at Old Trafford as part of their longer-term squad planning.

Casemiro joined from Real Madrid in August 2022 in a deal that could rise to £70 million, signing a four-year contract that included an option for an additional season. That option will not be triggered, a decision understood to have been reached well before the public confirmation.

Now 33, Casemiro arrived in Manchester with an elite pedigree and was viewed as a statement signing at a time when United were desperate for authority and control in midfield.

Over the course of his spell at the club, he has made 146 appearances and scored 21 goals, contributing not just defensively but with timely goals in key moments.

Following the announcement, Casemiro spoke with emotion about his connection to the club and its supporters.

“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” he said.

“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.

“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.

“We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”

Trophies, leadership, and a planned transition

Casemiro’s time at United coincided with a period of rebuilding, but it was not without success. He played a central role in the club’s Carabao Cup triumph in 2023 and was part of the side that lifted the FA Cup the following year.

Those trophies stand out during an otherwise rocky era, and his influence in big matches was often cited by teammates and coaches.

Beyond his performances on the pitch, Casemiro brought leadership to a dressing room that had often lacked it. His experience at the highest-level shaped standards in training and match preparation, particularly during his first season, when his impact was immediate and decisive.

In a separate message shared on social media, the midfielder acknowledged the moment as a natural turning point.

“Knowing when stages come to an end,” he noted.

“Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.”

“Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil.”

How many Champions League titles has Casemiro won?

Casemiro is one of the most decorated players in the history of the Champions League. During his time with Real Madrid, where he played a key role in central midfield alongside Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, the Brazilian won five European Cups with Los Blancos.
