Struggling Tottenham have a number of injury concerns to deal with ahead of Sunday’s visit of Manchester City

Tottenham host Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, February 1, with Thomas Frank facing several key selection calls as Spurs look to halt a difficult run of form.

Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League table and are without a win in their last five league matches, but attention ahead of the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side is firmly on Tottenham’s injury situation.

The main concern is Micky van de Ven, who will be assessed before kick-off. The Dutch centre-back missed Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League win away to Eintracht Frankfurt with a minor, unspecified issue, but Frank is hopeful he can return in time.

“Micky is a minor one, he’ll be touch and go for Sunday, we’re hoping,” Frank told reporters. “He was on the pitch yesterday, so hopeful for that, but he’s touch and go.”

Van de Ven has been a consistently top performer Tottenham despite their overall defensive problems this season, and his availability could be crucial against a Manchester City determined to get three points to move closer to leaders Arsenal.

His defensive colleague Pedro Porro, however, is ruled out. The Spanish right-back will be out of action for around four weeks.

There was more encouraging news regarding Dominic Solanke, who is available to start after scoring off the bench in midweek. The striker’s goal in Frankfurt underlined his sharpness following a recent fitness setback.

“He’s still building, but he’s ready to start on Sunday,” Frank said. “It was so nice when Dom was through on goal that you just had that feeling this is a goal.”

Richarlison remains unavailable due to a hamstring injury, although Frank suggested a possible return around the north London derby against Arsenal on February 22. While that remains an optimistic target, Spurs will reassess closer to the time.

“That could be a dream scenario and could happen,” Frank added. “We’ll know a little bit more when we get closer, but it’s in that bracket.”

Tottenham are boosted by the return of Conor Gallagher and Yves Bissouma, who are available again after missing the Champions League trip to Frankfurt due to ineligibility. Their return offers Frank greater depth in midfield ahead of a demanding fixture.

However, Spurs’ injury list remains extensive. Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Bergvall and Ben Davies are all long-term absentees and will not feature against City.

With several key players either unavailable or facing late fitness tests, Frank’s final selection will be closely watched ahead of Sunday’s clash.
