With his contract running until the end of the season, the German club have issued an ultimatum to Dayot Upamecano over contract extension
Bayern Munich have set a firm deadline for Dayot Upamecano to decide his future, with the club prepared to withdraw their contract offer if the defender does not commit in the coming days.
Talks have dragged on for months, and Bayern’s hierarchy have now made clear they are unwilling to wait any longer.
Upamecano’s current deal runs until the summer of 2026, but despite prolonged negotiations, no extension has been signed.
According to Sky, Bayern have sharply increased the pressure on the French centre back and his representatives.
Senior executives Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have reportedly received approval from the supervisory board to withdraw the existing offer entirely if there is no agreement imminently. Crucially, there is no improved proposal on the table.
Internally, Bayern believe the terms already offered represent a strong and fair package. The Bundesliga giants’ position is that the window for negotiation has effectively closed, and they are now prepared to accept the risk of losing Upamecano on a free transfer if he does not sign.
Potentially interest from abroad
There is growing speculation within the club that Upamecano is delaying his decision in anticipation of interest from abroad.
Real Madrid are frequently mentioned as a possible destination, while Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be monitoring his situation. Bayern officials suspect that the defender is weighing his options rather than hesitating over the contract itself.
Having featured in 26 games across all competitions so far this season, Upamecano remains an important part of Bayern’s defensive setup, but his long-term status has become a priority issue for the club’s leadership.
Reports suggest that most of the key elements of a new deal are already agreed and that a ready to sign contract has been available to the player for some time.
Eberl publicly underlined the club’s stance after Bayern’s recent 2–2 draw with Hamburger SV, making clear that patience is running out.
“Of course it’s clear: now a decision has to be made at some point,” Eberl told Sky.
The next few days are therefore pivotal. If Upamecano signs, Bayern secure continuity in defence and remove a major uncertainty.
If he does not, the club appear ready to shift their planning toward life beyond him, even if that ultimately means allowing him to run down his contract.
