Joan Laporta makes strong commitment to the German coach ahead of the upcoming Barcelona presidential elections
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made a headline-grabbing pledge ahead of the club’s upcoming presidential elections, vowing that head coach Hansi Flick will be able to remain at FC Barcelona “for as long as he wants” if Laporta is re-elected.
The promise, delivered during the prestigious Gran Gala 78ª de Mundo Deportivo in Barcelona, highlights the strong bond between the two figures and highlights Laporta’s commitment to stability amid an important electoral moment for the club.
At the gala, Laporta publicly praised Flick’s work since taking over the first-team job, labelling him as ‘the ideal coach for this current project at Barcelona’.
“If I become president again, [Hansi Flick] will remain the coach for as long as he wants,” Laporta said. He knows the club very well and will gain even more experience. He didn’t want a longer contract, but he is the ideal coach for these years at Barça, and thanks to him we are enjoying a very sweet moment.”
Flick, who is currently under contract until 2027, has declined to commit to a long-term deal in the traditional sense, preferring short contracts that give him flexibility.
Nevertheless, the German manager has openly expressed his happiness at Barcelona, calling his role a “dream” and signalling that he wants to stay for many years, calling it “a pleasure” to work at the club.
Laporta’s comments can be seen as both a show of confidence in his coach and a strategic appeal to voters looking for continuity. Barça have looked impressive under Flick, enjoying a domestic treble last season followed up by winning the Supercopa de España in January over Real Madrid, which has helped solidify support among members ahead of the vote.

When will the Barcelona presidential elections be held?
Following some initial flexibility on when we could see the elections for the next Barça president, the ballot is confirmed to be held on March 14.
In Joan Laporta’s way stand Víctor Font, Marc Ciria, Xavier Vilajoana and Joan Camprubí, who have all announced their intention to run for presidency.
If elected, Laporta’s assurance means that – barring unforeseen changes – Hansi Flick could become one of the most enduring managerial figures in recent Barça history, shaping the club’s footballing identity well into the future.
