Unai Emery provides fresh Aston Villa injury update before Friday’s trip to Wolves, with returns, suspensions and a new setback confirmed

Aston Villa head to Molineux on Friday night looking to strengthen their position in the top four of the Premier League, but Unai Emery must once again juggle key injury concerns within his squad.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, the Villa boss offered updates on several first-team players as preparations continue for the clash with the league’s bottom side Wolves.

There was encouraging news regarding Alysson, who is expected to be back in contention for the trip. Emery confirmed the player has returned to training and is likely to be included in the matchday squad.

“Alysson is coming back, probably in the squad tomorrow in case he trains fine this afternoon,” Emery said.

“The other players, apart from the ones who we knew were injured, we hope will be available tomorrow.”

Villa will hope his return provides a timely boost as they navigate a demanding run of fixtures.

However, not all the news was positive. John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Boubacar Kamara remain sidelined, leaving Villa light in central areas. Their continued absence limits Emery’s options in midfield, particularly against a Wolves side that can be aggressive and energetic at home despite their relegation all but confirmed.

There was better news in goal, with Marco Bizot now available again after serving his suspension, restoring additional depth between the posts.

Matty Cash is also fully recovered after his recent injury concerns. The right-back started in last week’s home draw with Leeds United and came through the match without issue, giving Emery stability in a key defensive position.

Fresh setback for Garcia

Aston Villa have, however, suffered another blow at right-back. Andrés García has sustained a further hamstring problem during training, potentially ruling him out for an extended spell. The setback comes at a frustrating time for the defender, who had been working to re-establish himself in the squad.

The recurrence raises questions about Villa’s defensive depth, particularly with a busy schedule still ahead and European ambitions firmly in sight.

With several senior players still unavailable but others edging closer to full fitness, Emery faces important selection decisions ahead of Friday night’s test at Molineux as Villa look to secure another crucial result on the road.
