Eden Hazard makes shocking Vinícius Jr prediction

Eden Hazard feels that Vinicius Jr may make a shock decision

The former Los Blancos forward fears that intense external scrutiny and pressure could drive the Real Madrid superstar into a premature decision

The mental and physical toll of modern superstardom has become a central concern for ex-Real Madrid player Eden Hazard as he observes the current trajectory of his former teammate, Vinícius Jr.

Hazard has reflected on the “exceptional” nature of the Brazilian’s talent, which he believes is increasingly obscured by a toxic media and social atmosphere.

Hazard, who stepped away from professional football at 32, suggested that the relentless focus on Vinícius’ off-field struggles, ranging from disciplinary tensions to the constant barrage of racist abuse, might lead the 25-year-old to walk away from the sport well before he reaches his biological decline.

Despite only appearing in 27 matches together due to Hazard’s injury struggles, the Belgian noted that Vini Jr possesses a rare “mental and physical strength.”

However, he questioned how long any athlete can sustain a high level of performance when the joy of the game is consistently compromised by external factors.

Hazard lamented that fans often forget they are watching a player who “just wants to have fun,” likening Vinícius’ early passion to his own peak years at Chelsea and Madrid.

“He has so many things on his mind before a game that sometimes I say to myself, ‘poor guy’,” Hazard said in an interview with public broadcaster RTBF.

“He knows he’s going to go through this, that hardly anything happens in terms of sanctions. It must be a burden, I wouldn’t be surprised if at 30 he said he was leaving, that he was quitting football, because in any case nothing changes.

“Now people talk more about what he does or what he suffers than what he contributes on the pitch. People forget what an exceptional player he is. That must weigh on him. It can’t be easy to go and play a game and think only about football.”

Hazard offered a blend of caution and encouragement, urging his former teammate to continue his expressive style of play while remaining mindful of the “stories” being constructed around him.

“I’d say, ‘Be careful. Play the way you want to play, but be careful. People are waiting for you, so play football, have fun, and let us true football fans enjoy ourselves. When you dance, dance in a certain way so that people will love you. Ronaldinho also danced, and I don’t remember seeing all these stories,” Hazard remarked.

Is Vinícius Jr leaving Real Madrid?

The relationship between Vinícius Jr. and the Real Madrid hierarchy has reached a point of significant tension. Negotiations for a contract extension have stalled despite the club’s desperate attempts to secure him beyond his current deal which expires in the summer of 2027.

The primary stumbling block is a 15 percent disparity in salary expectations, as the Brazilian’s camp is reportedly demanding a wage package that would make him the club’s highest earner, a move that president Florentino Pérez is hesitant to authorise.

This contractual deadlock has invigorated long-standing interest from his boyhood club, Flamengo. During the recent presentation of Lucas Paquetá in Rio de Janeiro, Flamengo sporting director José Boto publicly “opened the doors” for a homecoming, noting that the club could potentially sign the superstar for free if he refuses to renew and runs down his contract toward 2027.

Vini Jr stats this season (2025/26)

Despite a turbulent season so far with Real Madrid, Vini Jr is still producing solid numbers for Los Blancos. The Brazilian winger has managed 24 goal contributions from 39 matches in all competitions.

However, for a player of his standards, who wants to be challenging for the Ballon d’Or and collective titles, those numbers will have to see an uptake in the business end of the season.
