The Barcelona midfielder picked up the injury in the Champions League against Slavia Prague
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is set to be without star midfielder Pedri for one month after he picked up an injury against Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday. This is bad news for the Blaugrana manager ahead of a busy schedule with games in three competitions coming up.
Flick confirmed in his post-match press conference that the Spanish international was replaced shortly after the hour mark of the 2-4 win in Prague due to a hamstring issue.
“I don’t know exactly how he is but it’s a hamstring problem,” Flick said of the Pedri injury.
“We will have to wait until tomorrow to see how he goes but it’s not good news.”
While the German boss didn’t put a timeframe on a return for the 23-year-old, it is expected that he will be out for three weeks. This comes at a bad time for the Blaugrana as they will be competing on multiple fronts.

Which games will Pedri miss through injury?
Following the confirmation by FC Barcelona’s medical team on Thursday morning, Pedri will spend the next four weeks on the sidelines. This means he will almost certainly miss Barcelona’s next six games. That run of fixtures in three competitions begins on Sunday when the Catalan side welcome Real Oviedo to the Camp Nou on league duty.
Pedri would also miss the visit of Copenhagen in the Champions League, trips to Elche and Albacete in LaLiga and the Copa del Rey respectively and the home league game against Real Mallorca.
Had the injury been a three-week layoff as initially thought, Pedri stood a chance of returning for the game against fellow Catalans Girona on February 15 in LaLiga. However, that fixture comes too soon for the Spaniard, and is likely return date is now February 22, for the home league match against Levante.
Back for the business end of the season
Barça fans will hope this will be the last of Pedri’s injury woes this season, having already missed five games with injury earlier in the campaign. With the Supercopa de España already in the bag, the Canarian playmaker will be key to their ambitions to add further trophies to their collection this season.
If all goes to plan, Pedri should be back for the Champions League knockout stages as well as a potential Copa del Rey final. However, he could miss out on the semi-final first leg, provided his teammates can find their way past Albacete.
In terms of the LaLiga run-in, Flick will certainly hope to have Pedri back in advance of the visit of third-placed Villarreal on 1 March and the trip to Atlético Madrid just over a month later.
