Celtic legend James Forrest extends stay until 2027 after record-breaking trophy haul and 17 straight scoring seasons

James Forrest has signed a new one-year contract with Celtic, committing his future to the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.

The deal further cements Forrest’s status as one of the most iconic figures in the club’s modern history, having spent his entire career in Glasgow after joining the academy at just nine years old.

Now a veteran of 564 appearances, the winger continues to play a key role, featuring 36 times this season alone. Across his career, he has contributed 110 goals and 112 assists – remarkable numbers for a player who has consistently delivered over nearly two decades.

Forrest also boasts a unique record: he has scored in every one of the 17 seasons he has been part of the first-team setup.

His influence goes beyond goals and appearances. With 26 major honours – 13 league titles, seven Scottish Cups and six League Cups—he stands as Celtic’s most decorated player in history.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Forrest made clear what the club still means to him.

“I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve been here my full career and I’ve loved every minute of it,” he said.

“We’ve been so successful in my time here and I’m delighted to have signed another year, and I’ll just give my best to the club for however long I’ll be here.

“While I’m still playing I can hopefully keep contributing and helping the team when I can and I’m just going to give it everything until I finish.

“When I do stop, I will look back on so many great memories, but hopefully I can make a few more before I do finish.”

Aiming to finish the season with silverware

Despite Forrest’s personal success, it has been a challenging campaign for Celtic.

A difficult start to the season, compounded by managerial changes, has left them with work to do in the title race. With five games remaining, they sit third in the Premiership, three points behind leaders Hearts and two adrift of rivals Rangers.

With the title still within reach, Forrest will be hoping his new deal is followed by another trophy, adding yet another chapter to an already remarkable Celtic career.
