Brazilian midfielder Joelinton believes the recent win over Chelsea and the visiting fans will give Newcastle confidence

Newcastle United travel to the Camp Nou on Wednesday with their Champions League last 16 tie against Barcelona very much still alive. What’s more, the Magpies will go into the game high on confidence after winning 0-1 at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.

Playing two such big games in quick succession is never easy for any team, but this is the level that you aspire to if you want to be a big club and Newcastle midfielder Joelinton believes the momentum could help them.

Newcastle on a high after Chelsea win

The 29-year-old Brazilian was a second-half substitute as Newcastle held onto their early lead against Chelsea and he was full of praise for his teammates’ mindset to secure the win.

“We’re very happy with everything. Going to Chelsea has never been easy and it was my first time to win there.” said Joelinton, reflecting on the Chelsea win in the build-up to the trip to Barcelona.

“So it is a great feeling. We have had difficult games here but we got over the line and took the win.

“The guys that came in did a great job and worked hard for the team, showing that great mentality.”

Away support could be key and Joelinton hopes to repay them

Newcastle are expected to have a sizeable travelling support in the Catalan capital on Wednesday evening and Joelinton is hoping their backing can give the team a lift. In return, he believes the team can repay them with a result as anything can happen on the night.

“It is something we always expect but this will be extra special. To see 10,000 Geordies in Barcelona is incredible,” said Joelinton.

“They will be very important for us. I hope we can deliver a good performance for them.

“I hope it is a good trip for everyone. We hope they enjoy it and we enjoy with them too. If we give our best we can give them a result.”
