Wrexham coach confirms star striker Kieffer Moore faces a period on the sidelines following recent medical scan results

Wrexham coach Phil Parkinson has shared a concerning injury update regarding Kieffer Moore and other members of his squad as they prepare for Friday night’s highly anticipated Welsh derby against Swansea City at the Racecourse Ground in the EFL Championship.

The primary focus of the update involves star striker Kieffer Moore, who appears set for a stint on the sidelines following recent medical evaluations.

Parkinson confirmed that both Moore and teammate Libby Cacace received discouraging news after undergoing scans on Monday.

Both players are currently dealing with tendon issues, a type of injury that the manager noted is notoriously difficult to assign a specific recovery timeline.

Moore originally reported tightness following Wrexham’s 2-4 FA Cup fifth-round exit at the hands of Chelsea, and while he attempted to train early in the week, subsequent imaging revealed a split in the tendon and was forced to miss the recent 1-2 loss to Hull City.

“Both Kieffer and Libby are not great news, after scans on Monday,” Phil Parkinson told the club’s media channels. “Both have tendon problems, which is quite difficult to nail down a definitive timescale on.

“Libby felt his calf in rehab, on his return from his hamstring issue, and it’s just very frustrating for him.”

On Matty James, the Wrexham boss admitted that a follow-up scan revealed a longer period of absence than first thought.

“Matty had a rescan on his toe yesterday, and it is healing, but slower than we first anticipated. With Matty, we’ve got to get it right. It’s as obvious as that,” he said.

“But time is a great healer, and there was a slight complication, which was only really discovered on the second scan.”

Beyond the immediate impact on Wrexham’s Championship campaign, Parkinson admitted after the Chelsea game that Moore is now a “big doubt” for the upcoming international window.

Wales are scheduled to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in a crucial World Cup playoff semi-final on March 26, with a potential final against either Italy or Northern Ireland five days later.

Who could replace Kieffer Moore?

On who could replace Kieffer Moore in attack, Parkinson believes he has eager options to choose from in the form of Jay Rodriguez, Davis Keillor-Dunn and deadline day signing Bailey Cadamarteri.

“They’re all pushing for a starting place – Bailey, Jay and Davis. They’re chomping at the bit, and all waiting for their opportunity,” Parkinson said.

How much did Wrexham pay for Kieffer Moore?

While the club officially announced the signing of the Wales international from Sheffield United as an undisclosed fee in August 2025, industry reports suggest a significant investment was made to secure his services.

Various sources indicate that the Red Dragons paid approximately £2 million to bring the veteran striker to North Wales on a three-year contract.

This move was viewed as a major statement of intent by owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as the club continues its ambitious push through the divisions of English football.

How tall is Kieffer Moore?

Kieffer Moore is well-known throughout the professional game for his imposing physical presence, which has made him a focal point for both club and country.

Standing at 6’5″ (1.96m), the striker is one of the most effective aerial threats in the Championship. His height and strength are central to Phil Parkinson’s tactical approach, allowing Wrexham to utilise him as a target man who can hold up play and dominate defensive lines during set-piece situations.

Kieffer Moore stats this season

Before his recent injury setback, Moore had established himself as the most prolific attacking outlet at the STōK Cae Ras.

The Welsh forward has netted 13 goals across all competitions this season, leading the club’s scoring charts. His contributions have been vital in Wrexham’s push for a playoff place in the EFL Championship, where he has recorded 11 goals in 32 appearances.

Additionally, he found the net twice during the club’s Carabao Cup run earlier in the campaign, showing his value to the team’s offensive output.
