Blues legend Eden Hazard has admitted he wants to see a former teammate managing Chelsea in the future
Eden Hazard has revealed his dream of seeing former Chelsea teammate Cesc Fàbregas one day take charge of the club from the dugout, as the Spaniard’s coaching reputation continues to rise in Serie A.
Hazard was asked about Fàbregas, who is currently head coach of Como and enjoying an impressive debut season in Italy.
The side that was promoted in 2024 sit sixth in the Serie A table, with Fàbregas earning widespread praise for his tactical intelligence and man-management.
Hazard, who shared some of Chelsea’s most successful modern years alongside Fàbregas, did not hide his admiration for the former midfielder’s transition into coaching.
“I’ll be honest. We spoke a little in the summer,” Hazard said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. “I told him that he was one of the best midfielders in history and that he is destined to become one of the best coaches too.”
The Belgian went a step further, admitting he has already encouraged Fàbregas to consider a return to Stamford Bridge, albeit in a very different role.
“I explained to him that it was time for him to return to Chelsea, and he joked about it, but I really mean it,” Hazard added.
“He loves football and knows everything about the sport. I’m a Chelsea fan and want the best for the club, which is why I dream of seeing Cesc in the dugout while I’m in the stands behind him, enjoying the show.”
Chelsea in transition with Liam Rosenior
Chelsea are currently under new leadership following the January departure of Enzo Maresca, despite the Italian delivering both the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last season.
Liam Rosenior has since taken over and has made a solid start domestically, winning all three of his Premier League matches in charge, although his side were knocked out of the Carabao Cup semi-finals by Arsenal.
While any return for Fàbregas remains firmly in the realm of imagination for now, Hazard’s comments will resonate strongly with Chelsea supporters who remember the Spaniard’s intelligence, composure and authority at the heart of their midfield.
With his coaching stock rising rapidly in Italy, the idea of Fàbregas one day leading Chelsea no longer feels quite as far-fetched.
