Transfer update as Sevilla hint at keeping Odysseas Vlachodimos and European sides monitor Newcastle loan goalkeeper
Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos is drawing attention from several major clubs across Europe after impressing while on loan at Sevilla this season.
The Greek international stopper has spent the the whole 2025/26 campaign in LaLiga, where his performances have earned praise and sparked interest beyond Spain’s top flight.
With his parent club Newcastle still holding his registration until 2028, Vlachodimos‘ future is becoming a talking point in transfer circles across the continent.
Attracting interest in Andalusia and beyond
Sevilla appear keen to retain the goalkeeper beyond his loan spell, with the club’s sporting director Antonio Cordon confirming that both the player and the city have suited each other well so far this season.
While the loan deal runs until the end of the current campaign, the Andalusian side have indicated their desire to explore a permanent move if circumstances allow.
“”We’d like to keep him. We’ll see, he’s very happy in the city. It’s a city that’s important for every player who comes here,” Cordon told DAZN.
“Nobody wants to leave, and he certainly intends to stay, but we know his club knows he’s doing very well.

“There are big clubs in Europe that are also following him, and well, we’ll have to wait and see.”
Unsurprisingly, Vlachodimos’ impressive form has not gone unnoticed by other big clubs. Cordon’s comments suggest Sevilla are well aware they will face competition to sign him permanently, with several well‑established sides in Europe are monitoring his progress.
Vlachodimos’ rise since leaving Newcastle
Vlachodimos joined Newcastle United in the summer of 2024 from Nottingham Forest, becoming the club’s record signing for a goalkeeper at around £20 million.
However, he has yet to secure a regular starting position at St James’ Park, with competition from other goalkeepers and a stacked pecking order limiting his appearances.
In August 2025, he moved to Sevilla on a season‑long loan, where he has since featured regularly and earned plenty of credit for his shot‑stopping and consistency. His performances in LaLiga have also showcased his capabilities to a broader audience.
Although the Greece international has a contract at Newcastle until 2028, a summer move could be an appealing prospect, especially if he wants to continue playing regularly.
Any future deal would likely depend, however, on Newcastle being happy the fee on offer as they would probably want to make back most of the money they spent on him.
That could be a stumbling block for Sevilla, but the player’s desire to move could be an important factor. After a couple of seasons with limited game time, he appears to be revelling in his position of being a club’s number one goalkeeper once again.
