Bruno picked up a hamstring injury in midweek clash against Spurs, with Magpies scheduled to travel to Birmingham, where they will face Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round

Newcastle will travel to Aston Villa for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round tie without captain Bruno Guimarães, whose hamstring injury from Tuesday’s victory at Tottenham Hotspur remains under assessment.

Coach Eddie Howe confirmed the club is still determining the full extent of the Brazilian midfielder’s problem, leaving his return timeline uncertain.

The game at Villa Park comes on the back of Newcastle‘s crucial 1-2 win over Spurs, where Guimarães was forced off late in the match.

That victory, combined with their third-round triumph over Bournemouth, gave the Magpies momentum heading into the weekend, but losing their influential skipper represents a significant blow to their FA Cup ambitions.

Speaking during his Friday morning press conference, Howe addressed multiple injury concerns across the squad while also delivering encouraging updates on players working toward their returns.

“With Bruno, we are awaiting the full extent of his hamstring injury,” Howe said, offering no specific timeline for when the midfielder might be available again.

Miley sidelined by muscle damage from dead leg

Lewis Miley will also miss the Villa fixture as he continues recovering from a thigh injury that’s proven more complicated than initially expected. The young midfielder suffered a bad knock that resulted in muscle damage, requiring regular scans to monitor his progress.

“With Lewis, we are waiting day-by-day, he’s got a dead leg – he got a bad knock to his thigh and I think there was a bit of muscle damage on the knock,” Howe explained.

“He’s having scans on it every few days to see how that is. We don’t think it’s going to be long term – hopefully he will be back pretty quickly, so let’s wait and see on that one.”

The injury news wasn’t entirely negative, with Howe delivering positive updates on Joelinton‘s recovery from his groin problem. The Brazilian midfielder is progressing well through rehabilitation and could be available shortly after the Villa match.

“Joelinton’s doing really well. I don’t think he’ll make this game, but he’s not going to be too far away beyond this game,” Howe said.

“He’s desperate to be back involved, as he normally is, but that’s a great sign for us – that means he’s feeling good about his body, and he’s very positive.”
