Pep Guardiola press conference on Manchester City injury news ahead of a vital trip to face Everton
Pep Guardiola has provided an update regarding the availability of Rodri and Ruben Dias ahead of Manchester City’s clash against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The Blues travel to Liverpool in a rich vein of form, having already secured the Carabao Cup in March and booked their place in the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 16.
While Arsenal currently lead the Premier League standings by three points, City hold a critical game in hand, making every remaining fixture a necessity for their title ambitions.
Guardiola took to the pre-game press conference to reveal that both Dias and Josko Gvardiol will miss the encounter with the Toffees.
The defensive pair have been sidelined during a pivotal period of the 2025/26 campaign, with Dias out of action since sustaining a hamstring injury in the week leading up to the Carabao Cup final.
Despite these major worries, City’s backline has remained resilient, with Abdukodir Khusanov and Marc Guéhi forming a solid partnership that has guided the team through six successive victories.
Guardiola noted that while the recovery process is moving in a positive direction, the trip to Everton comes too soon for his senior defenders.
Meanwhile, Rodri is considered a major doubt for the match as he continues to manage a calf injury picked up against Arsenal earlier this month.

Guardiola remains confident despite ongoing injuries
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the City manager emphasized that he will not rush his key personnel back into the starting eleven until they have achieved full match fitness.
“[Rodri] is getting better, still didn’t train with us so we’ll see in the next days,” Guardiola said.
When pressed on whether he believed Rodri would be available for the final stretch of the season, the manager added: “Always, I am confident.”
On Ruben Dias, Guardiola confirmed that the Portuguese defender has not yet returned to training and will miss the Everton game.
“He’s not yet with the team but he’s getting better. Him, Josko [Gvardiol] and Rodri are better,” Guardiola said.
Arsenal face Fulham on Saturday and could potentially extend their lead to six points before City even kick off on Merseyside. Guardiola remains steadfast in his belief that the depth of his squad is sufficient to navigate the final four games of the season.
For a side chasing a historic treble, the ability to manage these physical setbacks while maintaining winning momentum will be the defining factor in their quest for silverware.
