The Frenchman has avoided major layoff, but the Brazilian centre-back is set to undergo a season-ending surgery that will see him miss out on the World Cup
Real Madrid have received a significant boost regarding the fitness of Kylian Mbappé, following fears that the forward had sustained a long-term injury during the closing stages of Friday’s encounter with Real Betis.
An official medical report released on Monday has confirmed that the Frenchman has suffered an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg.
While he is officially ruled out of the upcoming fixture against Espanyol, the diagnosis is far less severe than initially speculated.
The club’s medical staff will monitor his progress daily, with the primary objective being his reintegration for the trip to Catalonia next month.
“Following tests conducted today by Real Madrid’s medical staff, our player Kylian Mbappé has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg. His condition is being monitored,” the club’s official statement read.
The timing of the injury remains a source of frustration for the hierarchy, as Mbappé will be forced to watch from the sidelines this Sunday while Barcelona attempt to mathematically secure the LaLiga title.

Militão prioritises long-term with surgery

According to MARCA, while a conservative treatment plan could have seen him return in just five weeks, it carried a high risk of relapse – a gamble Militão was unwilling to take at this stage of his career.
