Franco Mastantuono praises new Real Madrid head coach Álvaro Arbeloa and gives his verdict on club president Florentino Pérez
Real Madrid youngster Franco Mastantuono has praised the immediate impact of new head coach Álvaro Arbeloa following a turbulent period at the Bernabéu, while also offering a striking one-word description of club president Florentino Pérez.
Arbeloa was appointed earlier this month after Xabi Alonso was dismissed from his role as head coach. Alonso paid the price for Real Madrid falling four points behind rivals Barcelona in LaLiga and suffering defeat to them in the Supercopa de España final in Saudi Arabia. The change in the dugout has already had a noticeable effect on several players, including the highly-rated Argentine winger.
Mastantuono spoke warmly about the influence of Arbeloa and his coaching staff, highlighting the confidence they have instilled in him. “Álvaro Arbeloa and his entire coaching staff give me a lot of confidence,” Mastantuono said. “That’s the most important thing for a player, which is why I’m playing a little more freely. I’m also grateful to this coaching staff and Xabi Alonso, who believed in me and brought me to Real Madrid.”
The 17-year-old has enjoyed increased involvement this season, making 21 first-team appearances in all competitions during his debut campaign for Los Blancos, scoring three goals and continuing to grow into life at the highest level.

Mastantuono comments on club president Florentino Pérez
When asked about Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, Mastantuono did not hesitate, summing up the influential figure with a single word: “Imposing!”
Real Madrid currently sit second in LaLiga, just one point behind leaders Barcelona, ensuring the title race remains finely balanced heading into the decisive stages of the season. Attention now turns to Europe, with Arbeloa’s side travelling to face Benfica on Wednesday in their final Champions League league-phase fixture.
Los Blancos are targeting victory in Lisbon as they look to secure an automatic place in the round of 16, with Arbeloa hoping to build further momentum as his reign gathers pace.
