Latest timeline for the completion of Spotify Camp Nou, including roof installation, stands and VIP areas
It has been a long time coming, but the ambitious redevelopment of the Spotify Camp Nou is entering its final stages, with FC Barcelona working towards a full completion date in the 2027/08 season.
While the stadium has already partially reopened, key elements such as the upper tiers, some VIP areas and roof are still under construction, with a phased timeline now in place for completion.
Camp Nou capacity
The current capacity of Spotify Camp Nou remains reduced due to ongoing construction work, but in the coming year we will see a gradual move towards full capacity as each new development phase is completed. Barcelona are currently able to host just over 60,000 spectators at the partially-redeveloped stadium.
Once fully completed, the stadium is expected to reach a capacity of around 105,000, making it the largest football stadium in Europe. The Blaugrana club believe it will have been worth the wait and hope fans will feel proud of the modernised arena.

Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys return?
Barcelona could, however, be forced to temporarily leave Camp Nou once again during the 2027/28 season due to the installation of the stadium roof. Work on the roof is expected to begin in the summer of 2027 and continue into the early part of the season, which may require the team to play matches away from the stadium.
The club’s preferred option is to use the Estadi Johan Cruyff, but concerns over capacity and revenue mean a Barcelona return to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys remains a possible fallback choice, especially if the works on the Camp Nou last longer than expected.

Another factor they must take into account is that adapting the Estadi Johan Cruyff for use in top-flight matches would cost 14 million euros.
Timeline for full capacity at Camp Nou
After recently gaining permission to expand the current capacity for matches at the Spotify Camp Nou to just over 60,000, Barcelona hope to move towards crowds of around 70,000 by September of this year with the partial opening of the third tier.
The hope is that after the Christmas break, they will be able to then increase capacity to 80,000 with the full use of the main stand and increased VIP areas. This will be the turning point when the stadium’s revenue begins to offset its costs.
It is then expected that around May 2027 the club will be able to play in front of full-capacity crowds of 105,000 with the full seating area completed. Work would then begin on the roof, which will require a temporary move away from the ground, as previously mentioned.
The hope is then to have the stadium fully completed by October 2027 and then turn to the continued redevelopment of the area around the ground.
