After coming close to leaving Atalanta in the summer, Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman has several clubs who have expressed their interest this January
Ademola Lookman’s future remains uncertain, with reports from Italy claiming that the Atalanta forward could even part ways with the club in the January transfer window.
Currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, the Super Eagles star has attracted interest from several European sides a few months after a turbulent summer, where he came close to parting ways with La Dea.
Here’s a look at five teams who could potentially make a move for Lookman in January.
Inter
The Nerazzurri pursued the Nigerian forward deep into the summer transfer window, but repeated approaches were rebuffed by Atalanta, who remained firm in their valuation and unwilling to compromise.
Despite sustained negotiations that stretched almost to the final days of the summer, the Serie A giants eventually stepped back, accepting that an agreement would not be reached.
Lookman addressed the speculation for the first time in an interview with Egyptian broadcaster OnSport.
“I think many things happened, I am living in the moment and trying to perform as well as I can,” he said.
Bayern Munich
The Bundesliga powerhouse stepped up their pursuit of Lookman last summer by making an initial approach to sign the Atalanta forward.
The interest was first reported by The Athletic, with subsequent confirmation from Italian media that Bayern formally contacted Atalanta to explore the possibility of a deal.
However, the Serie A side made their stance clear, rejecting Bayern’s opening proposal and signalling that they are unwilling to sanction a temporary move without firm guarantees.
Tottenham Hotspur
The Premier League club are looking to beef up their attack, with Lookman emerging as the latest high-profile name under consideration as they look to inject greater quality and depth into the forward line.
Rather than committing to one or two primary options, Tottenham are reported to have drawn up a wide-ranging list of potential signings and, according to TEAMtalk, Lookman has been added as another serious option.
Fenerbahçe
The Turkish club are reportedly intensifying their push to sign Lookman, with indications growing that Atalanta may be softening their long-held resistance to a January transfer.
The Istanbul side have made no secret of their ambition during the winter window, backing up their intent with high-profile recruitment and a willingness to compete financially with Europe’s established leagues.
Italian journalist Orazio Accomando has described Fenerbahçe’s interest as “concrete and serious,” reflecting the advanced nature of discussions and the belief that negotiations are moving towards a decisive phase.
Galatasaray
Yet, Fenerbahçe could face competition from domestic rivals Galatasaray, who have also expressed interest in the Atalanta forward. In fact, Galatasaray had already been monitoring the situation closely earlier in the season.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, a senior Galatasaray executive has travelled to Milan to open talks and explore the conditions of a potential deal.
With his contract running until June 2027, it remains to be seen how long Atalanta will be able to retain him.
