Veteran winger’s emotional journey reaches new heights after helping Inter Miami to MLS Cup glory, as he’s poised for Atlanta United move while Haiti prepare for historic World Cup appearance

Fafà Picault‘s professional career has taken another unexpected turn, with the veteran winger reportedly set to join Atlanta United after Inter Miami declined his contract renewal option following their MLS Cup triumph.

The timing of Picault‘s move coincides with perhaps the most significant achievement of his international career. Haiti qualified for the 2026 World Cup for the first time in over 50 years, ending a drought that spans generations and fulfilling dreams Picault scarcely dared imagine when he began his professional journey.

MLS expert Tom Bogert has reported that the deal is nearly complete, bringing the soon-to-be 35-year-old to a club desperately seeking depth and experience in wide positions.

Set for World Cup debut with minnows Haiti

December’s World Cup draw placed Haiti in Group C alongside Brazil, Morocco, and Scotland. The group presents enormous challenges for a nation making only their second World Cup appearance, with each opponent bringing formidable credentials.

“I am super emotional, super happy,” Picault said after Haiti secured their place at the tournament. “Not only because of everything happening in the country, but also because it had been so many years without qualifying. It’s an honour for all of us, for our country, our families, and for me, personally, because my grandfather also played for the national team. It’s hard to explain what I am feeling.”

Brazil’s five World Cup titles represent more than any other nation in tournament history. Their attacking tradition and technical superiority make them overwhelming favourites, though recent tournaments have shown even the Seleção can be vulnerable to disciplined opposition.

Morocco stunned the football world by reaching the 2022 semi-finals in Qatar, becoming the first African nation to advance that far. Meanwhile, Scotland qualified through a heroic campaign but carry troubling historical baggage. Eight previous World Cup appearances have all ended in group stage exits, creating pressure to finally break through on American soil.

For Picault, who remains a regular starter for Haiti in crucial matches, the World Cup represents a career pinnacle he’ll experience at 35. His continued presence in the national team setup despite his age demonstrates the respect he commands and the quality he still possesses.
