FC Barcelona face competition in pursuit of Dušan Vlahović as Juventus open negotiations over a new contract

FC Barcelona could face a significant setback in their reported interest in Dušan Vlahović after Juventus opened discussions over a possible new contract for the striker.

Barcelona are expected to enter the market for a centre-forward with Robert Lewandowski approaching the end of his current deal this summer. The Polish forward has been a key figure since arriving from Bayern Munich in 2022, but the club are now exploring long-term attacking options.

Vlahović has been viewed as an attractive target for the Catalan side, particularly given the financial constraints that have forced Barcelona to be strategic in the transfer market in recent years.

With the Serbian international’s contract in Turin also set to expire, the possibility of signing him without a transfer fee had made the situation even more appealing.

Juventus reopen negotiations with Vlahović

However, developments in Italy suggest that scenario may not be as straightforward as first thought.

Reports indicate that Juventus have now moved to reopen negotiations with Vlahović regarding a new deal. Earlier suggestions had claimed the Italian club were prepared to allow the striker to leave at the end of the season, but their stance now appears to have shifted.

Juventus are believed to have tabled a fresh proposal that would see the forward earn around €6 million per year plus performance-related bonuses.

The offer forms part of the club’s wider strategy to control wages, with the Turin side looking to establish a new salary ceiling of roughly €7 million annually.

At this stage, though, an agreement has not yet been reached.

Vlahović is reportedly reluctant to accept a pay reduction, as his current contract is worth around €8 million per year before bonuses. The striker is aware that a move elsewhere, particularly to the Premier League, could potentially bring a more lucrative package.

The 26-year-old has remained an important figure for Juventus since joining from ACF Fiorentina in 2022 and continues to attract interest across Europe.

Barcelona now face uncertainty remains around a player they had viewed as a possible solution to their future striker plans.
