Guéhi’s contract expires this summer, but City could sign him in the January transfer window
Manchester City have stepped up their pursuit of Marc Guéhi, with momentum building around a possible January move from Crystal Palace after a significant approach in the past twelve hours.
The club have reportedly presented Guéhi with a strong contract proposal, while also indicating their willingness to move forward in talks with Palace should an agreement on personal terms be reached.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has reported that City have made a major advance in recent discussions, underlining how seriously the Premier League champions view the Palace captain as a defensive target.
“Manchester City advance on Marc Guehi deal as big approach has been made in the last 12h,” Romano wrote on X.
“Manchester City presented important proposal to Guehi in terms of contract, eventually ready to proceed also with Crystal Palace. Deal now closer with Man City.”

Guéhi set to depart Palace
City’s interest comes at a pivotal moment in Guéhi’s career. The England international is approaching the end of his contract at Selhurst Park, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.
While that would allow him to leave on a free transfer in the summer, Palace have made it clear they are open to offers during the January window, keen to avoid losing a key player without compensation.
Guéhi’s situation has attracted sustained attention from across the Premier League. Liverpool came closest to signing him during the summer transfer window, agreeing a £35 million fee only for the move to collapse late on deadline day when Palace were unable to secure a replacement.
That episode left Guéhi in South London, but it did little to dampen wider interest in one of the division’s most reliable centre-backs.
Comfortable in possession, positionally disciplined, and already a leader at club level, he fits the profile of defender City have consistently targeted under Pep Guardiola. With Romano suggesting that talks are progressing, the sense is that the Sky Blues are prepared to move quickly if Palace are willing to negotiate.
Should City manage to lure Guéhi to the Etihad, the Palace captain will become their second signing of the January transfer window following Antoine Semenyo’s arrival from Bournemouth. Having scored in two straight games across all competitions, the 26-year-old forward has hit the ground running at the Sky Blues.
