The England international’s contract expires in the summer, and the 25-year-old has plenty of tempting options to choose from

Marc Guéhi was at the centre of serious transfer interest from Liverpool during the closing stages of the summer window, with the Merseyside club appearing close to finally landing the Crystal Palace defender in the final hours.

That move ultimately failed to materialise, however, after Crystal Palace were unable to line up a suitable replacement in time.

Palace head coach Oliver Glasner has since confirmed that Guéhi will not be signing a contract extension, removing any ambiguity around his long-term future. With his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2026, a departure is now viewed as inevitable.

“Whether it’s sorted or not, it doesn’t matter for me,” Guéhi said in October. “Personally, I don’t know if I can think that far ahead.

“I like to just take it step by step, and that is just focusing on the games that I have at Palace and any upcoming opportunities I have here.”

While Liverpool were the only club seriously involved during the summer, Guéhi’s performances have already established him as one of the division’s standout centre-backs, and with his contractual situation now clear, additional suitors are likely to emerge as 2026 approaches.

Liverpool

Ibrahima Konaté’s future remains uncertain, as the two parties have yet to reach an agreement on a potential contract extension. Taking into account that Guéhi has been Liverpool’s primary target since last summer, the club could even make a move to sign him in the ongoing January transfer window as Giovanni Leoni’s season-ending injury has left the Reds with limited options at the back.

Real Madrid

Injuries to starting centre-backs have forced Real Madrid to field experimental defensive duos on numerous occasions this season. Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba have missed several games, with midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni dropping back to fill in. Guéhi has been placed on Real Madrid’s radar, and given the situation, Los Blancos could be considered strong suitors.

Barcelona

No LaLiga team have scored more goals than Barcelona so far this season. Yet, the Blaugrana are averaging more than one goal conceded per game in the league. Their defence has been the team’s Achilles heel and Guéhi might be just be the solution to their issues at back.

Bayern Munich

Having already lured Harry Kane and Michael Olise to Germany, Bayern Munich could make a move for fellow England international, Guéhi, amid reports that club executive board member for sport Max Eberl has already expressed the club’s interest in the Crystal Palace captain.

Manchester City

Manchester City are reportedly weighing up a January move for Guéhi, with TalkSPORT claiming the Premier League powerhouse are preparing to test Palace’s resolve before the transfer January window closes.

City are understood to be reluctant to meet Palace’s €40 million valuation of their captain, but sources suggest an offer of some description could still be submitted in the coming days.

March Guéhi salary: How much does the Palace captain earn?

Marc Guéhi currently earns around €57,000 per week at Crystal Palace, which equates to just under €3m per year, according to Capology.

While Guéhi is the captain of the Eagles and an undisputed starter for the 2024/25 FA Cup winners, there are currently ten other Palace players who earn more than him.

Daichi Kamada leads the way on €121,000 per week, followed by goalkeeper Dean Henderson (€115,000) and striker Eddie Nketiah (€103,000).

However, as a free agent in the summer, Guéhi could stand to make four to five times more than he is currently on. Free agents commonly receive more lucrative contracts than those who move for a transfer fee. This is because players, or their agents, know that the club are saving a great amount on a transfer fee and can therefore push command a greater salary and signing-on fee.
