Bayern Munich are monitoring Brobbey as Sunderland striker impresses in debut Premier League season
Brian Brobbey has admitted he is flattered by interest from Bayern Munich following a productive debut campaign that has helped Sunderland re-establish themselves in the Premier League.
The Wearside club are currently preparing for a significant home fixture against Nottingham Forest on Friday, with the squad looking to secure a top-half finish.
While the collective focus remains on the final weeks of the season, the individual future of Brobbey has become a primary topic of discussion in the European media.
The Bundesliga champions are observing the 24-year-old’s situation closely as they seek to identify long-term competition for Harry Kane.
Brobbey arrived in the North East last summer in a deal worth approximately £17 million from Ajax, and his physical impact has been a mechanical necessity for Régis Le Bris’ tactical setup.
With six goals and an assist in 26 league appearances, including a decisive strike in a recent Tyne-Wear derby victory over Newcastle, the Dutchman has established himself in the starting eleven.

When questioned about the persistent rumours linking him with a move to the Allianz Arena, Brobbey maintained a humble yet light-hearted stance.
“It is always nice when such a big club comes calling,” he told Viaplay. “But I haven’t heard anything myself. I wouldn’t know.”
Henry joins chorus of praise for Dutch forward
The striker’s form has not only caught the eye of club scouts but also some of the game’s greatest figures. Thierry Henry recently singled out the Ajax academy product for his hold-up play and work rate, a gesture that the Netherlands international admitted has provided a major boost to his confidence.
“What I like about him is the separation that he creates,” Henry said back in January.
“I’m thinking about Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Mark Viduka. They always used to let the ball go straight to you. He’s got a big frame, he’s strong and difficult to stop. I don’t know how he scored that goal but I know how he created.”
Brobbey, who was a member of the Euro 2024 squad and is expected to be in contention for the upcoming World Cup, noted that such recognition from a legend indicates he is on the right track.
“That is nice, of course, when a legend says something like that about me,” Brobbey added. “It makes you happy as a person too; then you know you are on the right track. I think that is great to see.”
His value is expected to increase significantly should he maintain this trajectory, especially given the four years remaining on his current contract.
The club’s ability to fend off interest from a giant like Bayern will likely depend on their continued upward mobility in the table, with the Black Cats currently sitting in 11th place on 46 points.
