Since losing on the opening day to LAFC, Inter Miami have gone on an unbeaten run that now stretches to 10 games in all competitions with last night’s win over Real Salt Lake.

Miami left it late against Salt Lake who saw their own six-game unbeaten run halted by Leo Messi and co. Two goals in the final 10 minutes sealed the deal for the visitors who now sit 2nd in the MLS table, just a point behind Nashville SC.

The home side had the ball in the net inside the first five minutes but a VAR check saw it chalked off. What ensued was a relatively even game, although the visitors had the better of the opportunities and eventually came up trumps with two moments of quality.

Two “stunners” to clinch the win

Former Atlético Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul opened the scoring in the 82nd minute with an exquisite long-range effort. The 31-year-old Argentina international received the ball from a corner and had time to pick his spot and bend the ball into the far top corner.

Less than two minutes later, substitute Luis Suárez sealed the deal with a terrific left-footed volley from just inside the area after exchanging first-time passes with Germán Berterame. It was a strike that his coach Guillermo Hoyos later described as a “golazo”, while also praising the Uruguayan’s attitude at coming off the bench.

“I don’t think it was just a goal; it was a ‘golazo.'” Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos said after the game.

“When you have players of this calibre, it is only natural that they might get frustrated when they find themselves on the bench.

“But here, there wasn’t a hint of that kind of attitude.”

Messi could have had two or three

Hoyo also commented that his side could have won more comfortably and that Messi could have buried several chances. The Argentine star already has seven goals in eight MLS games this season.

“I would have loved to see Leo score a goal, or two, or even three, given the numerous chances he had,” said Hoyos.

“But ultimately, other teammates found the net. Suárez’s goal makes me incredibly happy because he had been working so hard. He had his opportunity and converted it.

“Rodri did the same. Two absolute stunners,” Hoyos said.
