Tottenham host Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight in a meeting between two sides badly in need of Premier League momentum.

Spurs begin the evening looking over their shoulder, just six points clear of the relegation places, while Newcastle sit 12th but arrive in similarly poor form.

Tottenham have yet to win a league game in 2026, and Newcastle come into the contest on the back of three straight Premier League defeats, most recently a damaging 3–2 loss at home to Brentford.

Tottenham’s domestic struggles deepen

Tottenham’s league form has dipped to historic lows. They are currently on a seven-match winless run in the Premier League for the third time since the start of last season – something they had not experienced since 2008.

Since the beginning of November, Spurs have managed just two league victories from 16 matches, drawing six and losing eight. Home form has offered little relief, with only four wins from their last 26 Premier League games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, alongside 15 defeats.

Perhaps most striking is the contrast between domestic and European performances. Since mid-December 2024, Tottenham have recorded more wins in European competition (12 victories from 18 matches) than they have in the Premier League (11 wins from 47).

A fixture that rarely lacks goals

Despite the current struggles on both sides, history suggests this matchup usually delivers action. Tottenham vs Newcastle is the most-played Premier League fixture never to finish goalless, having been contested 61 times without a 0-0 draw.

It also ranks as the fourth highest-scoring fixture in Premier League history, with 196 total goals – behind only Liverpool vs Spurs, Arsenal vs Liverpool and Liverpool vs Newcastle.

Dominic Solanke could again be central to that trend. The striker has scored 13 goals in his last 19 home league starts and has found the net in each of his last three Premier League appearances against Newcastle.

Newcastle’s away woes and recent dominance

Newcastle’s problems have been particularly evident on the road. The Magpies have won just two of their last 15 away league matches, drawing five and losing eight.

They have also struggled in the capital, losing their last three Premier League games in London – something they last did across four consecutive visits back in 2019.

Still, recent head-to-head history favours Newcastle. Tottenham have lost five of their last seven league meetings with the Magpies, and are winless in their last four clashes overall, including a 2-2 draw at St James’ Park in December.

With both teams short on confidence, tonight’s contest sees a clash between fragile form and a fixture that, historically at least, rarely stays quiet.
