Arne Slot targets Igor Paixão as Liverpool seek attacking reinforcements after Hugo Ekitike injury
Liverpool are already planning for a summer rebuild after a difficult campaign, with attacking reinforcements high on the agenda.
The Reds’ season took another major blow this week as they were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain, losing 4-0 on aggregate.
Domestically, their focus has now shifted to securing a top-five finish to ensure a return to Europe’s elite competition next season.
Ekitike injury and Salah exit force attacking rethink
Liverpool’s need for reinforcements has been accelerated by a serious injury to Hugo Ekitike, who ruptured his Achilles tendon on Tuesday and is expected to miss the remainder of the year.
The situation is further complicated by the impending departure of Mohamed Salah, who has confirmed he will leave the club this summer.

With two key attacking figures set to be unavailable, Arne Slot is now exploring options to reshape his forward line.
One name under consideration is Igor Paixão, currently playing for Olympique de Marseille.
Slot knows the player well, having signed him during his time at Feyenoord in 2022 for just €4.5 million. Paixão later earned a move to Marseille for around €30 million after impressing in the Eredivisie.
Now 25, the Brazilian winger has continued to develop, combining pace and close control with an eye for goal. Operating primarily from the left, he is known for cutting inside onto his stronger right foot.
This season, he has contributed six goals and six assists in 26 Ligue 1 appearances, along with four goals in eight Champions League matches despite Marseille’s struggles in the competition.
Marseille are keen to retain Paixão, but financial pressures could force their hand. Reports suggest an offer in the region of €50 million may be enough to convince the French club to sell, representing a significant profit on their initial investment.
