Ecuador midfielder addresses speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid while outlining long-term ambitions at Chelsea
Moises Caicedo has addressed growing speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid, delivering a firm response over his immediate future at Chelsea.
The midfielder has become one of the standout performers in the Premier League over the past two seasons, attracting attention from Europe’s elite. Los Blancos are drawing a list of midfield reinforcements ahead of the summer window, and Caicedo’s profie has placed him firmly on their radar.
After joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021, the Ecuador international became a regular in 2022/23, playing 37 league games and standing out as one of the league’s best-performing midfielders. This led Chelsea to splash out £115 million to prise him away from the South Coast club.
And while his start at Stamford Bridge proved challenging, he has since developed into one of the league’s most effective defensive midfielders, renowned for his ball-winning ability and relentless energy.
Caicedo shuts down Real Madrid talk
Speaking while on international duty, Caicedo was asked directly about the possibility of a move to Madrid but made it clear his focus remains firmly on Chelsea.
“I’m focused on my club at the moment,” he responded to Diego Plaza from El Chiringuito TV.
“I have a contract with my club and I want to become a legend there, God willing.

“And now, with my national team [I want to] do the best.”
Pressed further on whether a strong World Cup performance could open the door to a transfer, Caicedo remained measured in his response.
“I hope everything goes well because what I want the most is to take my national team as high as possible.”
Chelsea’s season has been inconsistent, with the club currently sitting sixth in the Premier League and battling to secure a Champions League spot.
Their league struggles and their demoralising exit from Europe at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain has naturally fuelled speculation about potential exits, particularly for high-profile players.
For now, however, Caicedo appears fully committed to the project in West London, which will come as reassuring news to Chelsea, who are also seeing his midfielder partner Enzo Fernandez linked with moves away from the club.
The 24-year-old will next turn his attention to Ecuador’s upcoming friendlies against Morocco and Netherlands on March 27 and 31 respectively, as preparations continue for this summer’s World Cup.
Drawn in Group E alongside Germany, Ivory Coast and Curacao, much of Ecuador’s success will depend on whether Caicedo can perform at the high level he consistently does with Chelsea.
