Blues legend Eden Hazard has admitted he wants to see a former teammate managing Chelsea in the future
Eden Hazard has revealed who he wants to see become head coach of his beloved former club Chelsea, with the Blues having sacked yet another manager after Liam Rosenior was axed.
Under BlueCo’s ownership, Chelsea have fired five full-time first-team managers, with the club now drawing up a list of candidates ahead of the summer.
Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior have all been relieved of their duties, and now the likes of Andoni Iraola and Filipe Luis are being touted to take over.
However, when Hazard was interviewed in early February by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgian made clear who he would like to see take over at Stamford Bridge – his former Chelsea teammate Cesc Fàbregas.
Hazard is hoping that Fàbregas will day take charge of the club from the dugout, as the Spaniard’s coaching reputation continues to rise in Serie A.
Currently head coach of Como, the Catalan is enjoying a impressive spell in Italy. Como were promoted in 2024, where Fàbregas helped the team to a 10th place finish and, in the current season, find themselves fifth in the table, and pushing for a place in the Champions League.
The work of the former Chelsea man has earned him widespread praise for his tactical intelligence and man-management.

Hazard, who shared some of Chelsea’s most successful modern years alongside Fàbregas, did not hide his admiration for the former midfielder’s transition into coaching.
“I’ll be honest. We spoke a little in the summer,” Hazard said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. “I told him that he was one of the best midfielders in history and that he is destined to become one of the best coaches too.”
The Belgian went a step further, admitting he has already encouraged Fàbregas to consider a return to Stamford Bridge, albeit in a very different role.
“I explained to him that it was time for him to return to Chelsea, and he joked about it, but I really mean it,” Hazard added.
“He loves football and knows everything about the sport. I’m a Chelsea fan and want the best for the club, which is why I dream of seeing Cesc in the dugout while I’m in the stands behind him, enjoying the show.”
While any return for Fàbregas remains firmly in the realm of imagination for now, Hazard’s comments will resonate strongly with Chelsea supporters who remember the Spaniard’s intelligence, composure and authority at the heart of their midfield.
With his coaching stock rising rapidly in Italy, the idea of Fàbregas one day leading Chelsea no longer feels quite as far-fetched.
