Mikel Arteta delivers mixed update on Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Jurriën Timber before Arsenal face AFC Bournemouth

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta addressed the media on Friday ahead of his side’s early Premier League kickoff against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to 12 points, at least temporarily, before Manchester City take on Chelsea on Sunday.

With the title race entering a decisive phase, Arteta’s team selection will be under close scrutiny, particularly given recent concerns around several key players.

Arteta keeps cards close on key Arsenal injuries

Arteta remained deliberately vague when pressed on the availability of some of his biggest names, including Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, Jurriën Timber and Riccardo Calafiori.

“Yes, there have been changes since yesterday,” Arteta said.

When asked directly whether all four players would be available, he added: “I don’t know, some of them.”

That uncertainty leaves Arsenal’s lineup far from clear heading into the weekend, with Arteta opting not to give away any tactical advantage.

There was, however, more clarity regarding Eberechi Eze, who has made a quicker-than-expected recovery.

“He is available. He has [been ahead of schedule], my first conversation with him after he felt a niggle, he wanted to be available the next week, we knew that that was impossible,” he said.

“But the recovery, the will that he’s shown from day one to get back as quickly as possible, how he’s pushed the medical staff and himself to be there tomorrow, it’s just great to watch.”

Arteta also hinted at further changes when discussing defensive options, including Piero Hincapié.

“There will be changes tomorrow.”

With fitness doubts lingering over several key figures, Arsenal will be feeling confident that they can add another three crucial points to their tally at home to Bournemouth.
