Liverpool injury update as Arne Slot delivers latest on Giorgi Mamardashvili after Everton clash, with Alisson already sidelined

Liverpool were forced into another goalkeeping change during their dramatic 1-2 derby win over Everton on Sunday.

The match, played at Hill Dickinson Stadium, ended in late drama as Virgil van Dijk headed home a 100th-minute winner, but the result was overshadowed by an injury concern between the posts.

Giorgi Mamardashvili was forced off following a heavy collision with Everton striker Beto in the build-up to the home side’s equaliser.

With Alisson Becker already absent in recent weeks, the situation has left Liverpool light in a key position heading into a crucial stage of the season.

Slot offers reassurance after hospital trip

Speaking after the game, Arne Slot confirmed that Mamardashvili had been taken to hospital, but suggested the issue may not keep him out for long.

“He has gone off to hospital. It looked to me, and that’s also what they told me, that he had a big wound – an open wound,” Slot said after the game.

“That’s of course not going to be a long-term injury. Let’s see if he is available for next week.”

Despite the concern, Slot struck a relatively optimistic tone, pointing to the nature of the injury rather than any structural damage.

Liverpool were able to turn to Freddie Woodman, who came on as a substitute and helped see out the victory in a tense finish.

Slot also reflected on the broader injury challenges his squad has faced throughout the campaign, particularly the unusual situation in goal.

“We’ve had almost in all positions our problems and now even two goalkeepers being out,” he said.

“So it’s a good thing that we have three goalkeepers, because we usually don’t have three full-backs or three No.9s or three left wingers, and now it happens in a position where we have three players.”

Liverpool’s attention now turns to their next fixture on Saturday, April 25, when they host Crystal Palace. The hope within the club will be that Mamardashvili recovers in time to return, easing the growing pressure on their goalkeeping options, although Woodman’s positive late cameo has given reassurances that they can rely on their third choice keeper should they need to.
