The French forward publicly questioned his role and criticised Real Madrid’s managerial decision following the victory over Real Oviedo
Kylian Mbappé could face internal disciplinary action from Real Madrid after publicly criticising coach Álvaro Arbeloa in the aftermath of the club’s match against Real Oviedo.
The incident unfolded after the final whistle when Mbappé expressed frustration over his lack of involvement and openly questioned the club’s decision to appoint Arbeloa following Xabi Alonso’s departure.
According to reports in Spain, the France captain claimed he had been informed he was only considered the fourth attacking option behind Franco Mastantuono, Vinícius Júnior and Gonzalo García despite believing he was physically ready to start the match.
“The manager told me I’m the fourth striker behind Mastantuono, Vini and Gonzalo,” Mbappé said after the game.
The 27-year-old also made clear he disagreed with Real Madrid’s coaching change, suggesting the club may have made a mistake by allowing Xabi Alonso to leave before promoting Arbeloa into the senior managerial role.
“I had a great relationship with Xabi. He is going to become a great coach, but that is now in the past. We have to look forward,” Mbappé added.
Those comments have now put the player in a delicate situation internally, as Real Madrid are understood to be reviewing whether Mbappé’s remarks breach disciplinary regulations contained within the AFE-LaLiga agreement that governs professional football employment conditions in Spain.
Specifically, the agreement includes provisions covering “insulting or malicious statements” directed towards the club, its coaches, executives or players when those comments exceed acceptable criticism or freedom of expression.

Real Madrid could impose major financial fine
If the club decides disciplinary action is warranted, the punishment could extend beyond a formal warning.
Under the current regulations, serious sanctions can include suspension from duty and salary for between two and 10 days depending on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the agreement reportedly allows clubs to deduct up to 7 percent from the first €100,000 of monthly salary, with an additional 4 percent applicable to earnings above that threshold.
Taking into account that Mbappé’s reported gross annual salary of €30 million at Real Madrid, the numbers escalate quickly.
His monthly earnings are estimated at approximately €2.5 million gross. Based on those calculations, the total financial sanction could reportedly reach around €103,000 if Real Madrid apply the maximum allowable deductions under the agreement.
