Eddie Howe press conference on Newcastle United injury updates ahead of hosting his former side Bournemouth on Saturday
Eddie Howe faces a late selection dilemma regarding Bruno Guimarães as Newcastle prepare for the arrival of Bournemouth at St James’ Park.
The Magpies head into Saturday’s clash looking for a win in their bid to secure European qualification, but the physical readiness of their midfield anchor remains a primary point of discussion.
Having lost all their last three games across all competitions, Newcastle want to get back to winning ways on home soil.
It has now been confirmed that Bruno Guimarães has returned to the pitch, though his involvement against the Cherries is still subject to a final assessment.
The Brazilian international has been desperate to return to the matchday squad, a trait his manager was quick to praise during Friday’s pre-match briefing.
Howe acknowledged that Guimarães has been training with the group, but noted that a balance must be struck between the player’s enthusiasm and his long-term welfare.
“There is a chance he could be involved,” Howe explained. “The medical team are cautious because the player wants desperately to play. I’ve loved that about Bruno, he is desperate to help the team. I will make a decision based on what I see in training today and there is a possibility.”

He emphasised that any player taking to the pitch must be fully focused on the club’s objectives, suggesting that he would not hesitate to omit those whose heads may have been turned by outside interest.
Howe’s comments served as a clear message to the entire dressing room as the season enters its final eight weeks.
