Former United striker identifies “dream target” to lead summer recruitment ahead of the 2026/27 campaign
Louis Saha has urged Manchester United to make a major signing in the summer that would potentially elevate the club back to a position where it can compete for top honours.
The Red Devils are entering a critical phase of their campaign as they seek to consolidate their position within the Premier League top four and secure a return to the continent’s elite competition.
While the current squad remains the primary focus, the hierarchy is already considering the reinforcements needed to compete at a higher level next season.
It has now been suggested by the former United striker that securing Champions League football is a mechanical necessity for the club to attract the calibre of talent required to mirror past successes.
Asked who he would sign for United in the summer to help re-establish the side among the elite, Saha went for compatriot Désiré Doué, comparing the Paris Saint-Germain star’s potential to that of a club legend.
Doué has enjoyed a remarkable season in the French capital, establishing himself as one of the most effective progressive carriers in European football.

“If he was available, my dream signing for Man Utd would be Désiré Doué,” Saha told BetVictor. “He’s an amazing talent, and I really love his confidence and his work rate. His potential is enormous. That’s why it would really be a matter of breaking the bank. He is like a young [Cristiano] Ronaldo.”
His ability to operate across multiple positions in the final third has seen him contribute a significant number of goal involvements, frequently deciding matches with moments of individual brilliance.

Saha calls for physical reinforcements to balance midfield
The former forward also highlighted the need for a more robust presence in the centre of the pitch to support the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo.
Saha argued that while flair is essential, the squad currently lacks the physicality needed to dictate matches against the division’s top sides. He pointed toward the profiles of Declan Rice and Sandro Tonali as the standard required to provide a stable foundation.
“The Champions League is going to be huge for the club next season, and we have a need for a midfielder, some really physical players there,” he added. “Players like Declan Rice and Sandro Tonali, others will say someone to support Kobbie Mainoo.
“This is the balance that United need to find, and midfield is extremely important. And maybe another kind of playmaker, someone who is unpredictable, someone who is able to complement Bruno Fernandes as well.
“For some games, a different type of setup will be needed because of the opposition. So it’s important to have that right balance, and I think those three additions are extremely important.”
