England forward scored a stunning free kick against Real Madrid before admitting he would remain at Barcelona “if he was a magician”

Marcus Rashford admitted he would love to remain at Barcelona beyond this season after helping the Catalan club secure the LaLiga title with a memorable contribution to the victory over Real Madrid in Sunday’s Clásico.

The England international scored the opening goal in Barcelona’s 2-0 win at Spotify Camp Nou, curling a superb free kick beyond Thibaut Courtois in the ninth minute as Hansi Flick’s side clinched the league crown for the second consecutive season.

Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United last summer in one of the most closely watched moves of the transfer window.

While the agreement includes an option for Barça to make the transfer permanent for a reported fee of around €30 million, uncertainty still surrounds the forward’s long-term future.

When asked after the match whether he expects to remain at Barcelona next season, Rashford delivered a playful but revealing response.

“I don’t know,” he said. “I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. We will see.”

I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can. This is one more to add to this.

“This is a wonderful team, they’re going to win so much in the future; to be a part of that would be special.”

Rashford later gave a more cautious answer during an interview with ESPN, leaving open the possibility of returning to Manchester United once the season concludes.

“This is the perfect way I want it to end,” he noted. “I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today.

“I live in the moment. At the end of the season we will see. I came here to win and we do this, so I’m very happy. It’s an incredible feeling.”

Rashford delivers first league title of his career

Barcelona’s title triumph also marked a major personal milestone for Rashford. Despite winning domestic cups and European honours during his time at Manchester United, the forward had never previously lifted a league title in any country. Sunday’s success therefore represented the first league championship of his senior career.

“The feeling is amazing,” Rashford added. “It’s been a long season with ups and downs, but I think we deserved to win [LaLiga].”

Rashford has enjoyed an impressive campaign in Spain, scoring eight league goals while also contributing seven assists. His free kick against Real Madrid added another memorable moment to his campaign.

Interestingly, Rashford admitted afterwards that he had not initially intended to shoot.

“I wasn’t going to shoot,” he explained. “When I put the ball down, I didn’t see the angle, I didn’t feel confident it would be a goal.

“I was going to cross. But everyone told me to shoot, so I hyped myself up a bit. It was good I shot in the end; it was a good goal.”
